Brownfields Assessment and Remediation
Former Chemical Company Property
We have managed environmental assessment and remediation activities associated with redevelopment of a historic textile mill and chemical manufacturing plant in the Saylesville section of Lincoln, RI since 2001. Following site assessment activities in 2004, a significant source removal effort included the excavation and disposal of over 7,000-tons of impacted soil and the treatment of over 2,000,000-gallons of impacted groundwater from the site.
Although the results of those efforts significantly reduced contaminants in soil and groundwater, a dissolved plume of petroleum and chlorinated compounds currently remains above groundwater standards and nearby surface water standards. To achieve groundwater and surface water goals, we designed an innovative in-situ remedial approach, involving chemical oxidation and bioremediation. This injection program was implemented and post-injection monitoring is currently underway.
