Project Description:
In an effort to upgrade this 10 acre, 75 year old scrap recycling facility to meet current environmental protection standards, Middleboro Recycling engaged us to assist with the engineering design and reconstruction of the facility into a state of the art auto recycling facility. Engineering services provided included design of a fluids recovery system including oil, windshield fluid, transmission fluid, gasoline, batteries & catalytic converter recovery, along with an NFPA compliant tank farm for storage. Site layout and drainage improvements, with an expanded storm water retention basin were also designed and all permitting and regulatory compliance programs were completed. On-going services included routine regulatory compliance monitoring and reporting for storm water and mercury switch recycling. This storm water management project included many facets. The 10-acre auto recycling yard was not in compliance with wetlands, RCRA and storm water management standards. An agreement was negotiated with MassDEP and the owner, who implemented several recycling and reuse programs in conjunction with major facility upgrades, including installation of additional storm water management facilities. We were responsible for all engineering design, permitting, and construction management services to support the project and to help bring the owner back into compliance. MCP Phase 1-5 response actions and an IRA were also implemented. |
