Assessment and Remediation Services
The professionals at ES&M are experts when it comes to assessment and remediation projects.
Massachusetts Contingency Plan WorkES&M has guided numerous projects through all phases of the MCP. Although, the course is different for each site, ES&M’s vast cache of previous experience and intimate knowledge of the MCP has led to the transition from these earlier MCP phases, through the remediation phase to the successful cleanup and closure of sites impacted by a variety of contaminants ranging from gasoline and fuel oil to solvents, PCBs, dioxins and metals.
EPA Brownfields AssessmentsES&M has a great deal of Site Assessment and Remediation Planning experience at underutilized and/or abandoned Brownfield properties. For these projects we provide environmental consulting services that include assessment and prioritization of projects, assistance with procuring loans and grant funding, and completing Phase I and Phase II site assessments.
Vapor Intrusion and Indoor Air QualityAn increasingly common mechanism for human exposure to chemicals is by inhalation of chemicals that make their way into indoor air. ES&M has been on the forefront of vapor intrusion testing and vapor mitigation for some time. A key element of assessment the quality of indoor air is careful sample planning and an understanding of the pathways that are likely to allow for vapor intrusion. ES&M has conducted vapor intrusion assessments at residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. After identifying vapor intrusion at several properties, ES&M has designed and installed systems that have successfully mitigated the indoor air concerns.
ASTM Phase I and IIES&M has conducted several hundreds of ASTM Phase I and II environmental assessments over the years. The purpose of the Phase I assessments is to document recognized environmental conditions in connection with a subject property. The Phase I primarily involves conducting research. Typically a Phase II assessment is designed to evaluate the recognized environmental conditions identified in the Phase I ESA. The Phase II involves a more ‘intrusive’ approach and includes testing of soil, groundwater, indoor air, etc., for the presence of contaminants. Our typical clients include development companies, municipalities, and lending institutions. The depth of ASTM-type assessments is dependent upon site characteristics and the level of information needed by the client.
