Project Description:
As the project’s general contractor, we conducted all assessment and remedial response actions under the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) for full closure of this drum disposal site. Drums were discovered during utility installation work, resulting in implementation of an emergency responses (IRA & URAM). We coordinated response actions with the U.S. EPA, MADEP, MassHighway, and contractors working on behalf of these agencies. Initial assessment activities involved Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Electro-Magnetic (EM) surveys, test pits, drilling and sample collection using Level B personal protective equipment. A remediation plan was then designed and competitive bids were solicited. In order to complete remedial construction, all permits were identified and local conservation submittals including an ANRAD, NOI and storm water report were prepared and public hearings were attended. Remedial construction activities were implemented including asbestos abatement of a small building, demolition of the building, installation of steel sheeting, excavation of soil in a controlled environment enclosure with air scrubbing of exhaust air, off-site disposal of impacted soil and drums and final site closure documentation. |
