Rehabilitation of Historic Stone Tower
Central Falls, RI
Background: The Cogswell Tower in Jenks Park was built in the early 1900’s and donated to the City of Central Falls by an industrialist. The tower, the surrounding retaining walls and walls of one of the ornamental gazebos were all constructed of rubble mortared stone. Over the years a number of cracks developed in the walls and in the tower structure. We were retained by the City to prepare an over-all rehabilitation program, then to prepare plans, specifications and bid documents for the recommended construction. In addition to the design, we administered the contract, worked closely with the City to expand the construction as additional funds became available and provided construction observation for the project. |
